COURSE:   This is the introductory course in financial management that is designed to provide you with a working knowledge of the processes and techniques of financial analysis, planning, and decision-making in a business organization, and the environment in which a financial manager must operate.   Emphasis will be as much on application as on theory and principles.

POLICIES:  Regular attendance is expected.  Participation in class discussions is also expected and would include providing answers to homework problems and questions, and volunteering information on the topic(s) being discussed based on above readings.  Please read the appropriate chapter before coming to class.  Final grades will be based on the following:

Homework problems will be solved in class in groups with each member of the group expected to participate orally as well as by writing the solution(s) on the board. Absence or lack of adequate participation on a day will cost you 1% of your final grade, with a maximum loss of 10% for the entire trimester.

Each group of 2-3 students will solve and present to class complete solution to an assigned end-of-chapter Integrated Case.  The write-up of the solution, using Word (and Excel, if appropriate), must be turned in at the beginning of the presentation.  There must be a title page containing the following information: BA 380 Financial Management, Fall 2003, chapter number, title of the case, group-member names, and date of presentation.  The name(s) of group-member(s) who do not adequately participate in solving and presenting the case should not appear on the title page, as they will receive a grade of zero for it.

During or at the beginning of several class meetings, you would be randomly asked to summarize a finance-related article or news item from the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, or any other financial publication.  Each time you are unable to do so or are absent, it would cost you 1% of your final grade, with a maximum loss of 5%.

Use of a TI financial calculator is required.  TI-83 is highly recommended but BAII PLUS is acceptable.  All work (calculations, etc.) must be shown during exams.   No materials other than time value of money tables and equations will be permitted during exams.

Please notify me of any learning or physical disability, or special needs, which may affect your performance in this class.  Arrangements will be made to provide you with the appropriate accommodation.

It is your responsibility as a student to ensure that you are properly enrolled in this course.  It is not possible to add courses after the census date.  To check your enrollment status, use WEBOPUS and click on Student-Detail-Schedule. Copying an assignment from another student’s disk or work and turning it in as own work constitutes academic dishonesty.  College regulations against academic dishonesty (cheating, plagiarism) will be strictly enforced.  Missed exams cannot be made up and late assignments will not be accepted.
