ASSIGNMENT SUBMISSIONS: We will be using the MOODLE Course Management System. This system is used to assign class topics and homework, provide lecture notes, submit class assignments and provide grading feedback. It has other features which I may implement during the term.
Quizzes: Quizzes may include computer tasks, short answer, or essay questions. Quizzes may occasionally use multi-choice or true/false questions. Quizzes will be given at the beginning of class on the scheduled days. A 5 minute grace period will be allowed but if you show up later than 5 minutes, you will receive a 0 for that day's quiz. No make-ups will be given for any reason.
Pop Quizzes: Pop Quizzes are may be given unannounced to ensure students are prepared to contribute to class discussions.
Haag -Short-Answer Question Assignments: Will be typed and submitted through Moodle by the beginning of the class in which the chapter is to be discussed.
MS Office Text Lessons: Each chapter in the Shelly text consists of back ground and tutorial reading, step by step tutorial and end of chapter Lab assignments. Students are expected do the chapter reading and tutorial before the class that the chapter is assigned. On the day a chapter is assigned we will discuss the techniques presented in the chapter and answer any questions about the techniques. The tutorial aspect of each chapter will be used as home work and will be submitted via Moodle before the first class the chapter is discussed. Late assignments will NOT be accepted!
MS Office Apply Your Knowledge/In the Lab Assigns: End of chapter Apply Your Knowledge or In the Lab assignments will be used as OPTIONAL EXTRA CREDIT assignments valued at 5 points. These assignments will be submitted through Moodle as directed and will be due at the beginning on the class after the Chapter is discussed. Late assignments will NOT be accepted!
Papers and Presentations. Papers and presentations may be added to the class schedule at the instructors discretion. All papers and presentations will be created using Microsoft Office per the instructions given by the instructor. Presentations may be given using MS PowerPoint.
Computer projects: Software projects are assigned throughout the term. The projects will utilize aspects of Excel, Access, Dreamweaver and HTML. Projects will be capstones to the major subjects presented and, generally, be due one week after the conclusion of the subject area (i.e. Excel, Access and Web Page).
Attendance: Attendance at all class meetings is expected. Class attendance may be taken at the end of class at 10 points countable to the over course grade. You are responsible for all material covered during any class you miss in addition to any assignments made or due at that class meeting. I will not repeat a "missed lecture" on an individual basis - please get notes from a classmate. A significant portion of the class is from material outside of the textbook discussed during lecture/class discussions.
FERPA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act statement relative to use of MOODLE.
We will be using Moodle, a course management system, in this class. Our use of Moodle may sometimes make students' names and FLC network IDs visible within the course website. We are using secure, password-protected, access to the course so your identifying information will be visible only to other students registered in the Moodle class. If you have concerns about the visibility of your identifying information, please contact me to discuss.
Academic Misconduct: There is nothing wrong with students working together in studying for tests, discussing program assignments, algorithms, etc. In fact, I highly encourage students to work together. However, students are expected to actually prepare assignments on their own. Therefore:
Computer Accounts: You will need a computer account on the campus network system. The campus network will be used for communications via electronic mail, to post assignments and to store class notes.
